E-bikes are the Superior Choice for Cycling Commuters
The pace at which biking is growing in popularity is truly astounding. Last year (2021), more than 53 million Americans participated as reported by Statista. More than 100 million bicycles were manufactured worldwide last year…that’s a lot of bikes!
The e-bike segment of the market is leading the way with amazing increases. For example, the number of e-bikes imported to the US increased by 70% last year. It’s looking like at least one million e-bikes will be sold in the US for 2022, with much higher numbers in Europe and Asia. E-bike sales have even outpaced electric car sales for the past three years! It’s expected that these numbers will just keep growing for at least a few years, perhaps longer.
Part of the enthusiasm for cycling comes from the need for an economical way of commuting to/from the workplace. In Copenhagen, Denmark more than 50% of the population uses a bike to commute for work or school. Numbers in the US are much smaller, but growing. Of course, recent hikes in the prices of gasoline and diesel have “fueled” the rowing interest in commuting by bicycle.
Of course, commuting via e-bike is also on the rise. Peopleforbikes.org says “Recent research from Portland State University found that e-bikes encourage new people to ride, gets those who already ride to ride more often, and people feel safer when riding e-bikes than standard bikes. E-bikes are replacing car trips as well. Results indicated that e-bike rides replaced 1,778 motor vehicle miles (average of 9.3 miles per trip) just within the last three trips reported by respondents.”
A portion of the growing interest in e-bike commuting is directly related to cost reduction, and another portion is due to interest in clean air. Sciencedirect.com provides these insights:
E-bikes have the capability to reduce car CO2 emissions by 24.4 million tons p.a. in England).
E-bike carbon reduction capability is greatest in rural areas.
3400 census zones have high capability to replace car travel with e-bikes and economic vulnerability to car dependence.
With the increasing interest in environmental factors and economy of transportation, e-bikes such as the easy-to-ride MAGiCYCLE Commuter have a very bright future.

Why Choose an E-bike for Commuting?
Once a commuter has determined a bicycle is desirable for his or her commuting, there still remains a choice to be made. Is it best to do your commuting on a conventional bicycle or use an e-bike? Here’s why many riders believe an e-bike is the preferred choice:
Saving Your Time
You might assume that e-bikes can travel at higher speeds than conventional bicycles, and you are correct. Those higher speeds will naturally let you reach your destination more quickly, saving you some time every day. Over the course of a week or a month, that adds up to a lot of extra time you can use for other purposes. But there’s more to it than speed.
Many people unfamiliar with e-bikes do not realize the excellent quality of exercise they can provide. Many assume that a bicycle with a motor is “cheating” when it comes to pedaling, and so the exercise is minimal. That is not the case! Yes, you can travel with little or no exercise if that is what you want, but you can also adjust the degree of motor assistance to fit the intensity of exercise that is best for you.
This means that time spent commuting is also time spent exercising. You save time because you don’t have to schedule an additional exercise session after your workday has ended. Again, over the course of a week or month, this is a huge time savings for e-bike commuters.
Saving Your Money
Those seriously concerned about reducing their carbon footprint are shifting to electric cars, bicycles, and perhaps public transportation such as buses or subways. Fortunately, e-bikes fall into the same green category with a negligible carbon footprint.
For example, with the reliability of Magicycle, you’ll love commuting to work worry-free. You know you’ll get there on time and you’ll do it for a mere fraction of the cost involved with an automobile…or even public transportation. In fact, you could easily save more than $400 monthly compared to automobile expenses.
And when you have to make a quick trip for a gallon of milk, just leave the car in your driveway. The savings add up, and you’ll have a much more enjoyable journey on your Magicycle!
Exactly how much can you save? Everybody’s different, but it’s safe to say you’re looking at substantial savings every month. And remember, you can purchase your Magicycle using PayPal’s monthly payment plan–or just use a credit card. Your monthly transportation savings could easily cover the payment on your shiny new e-bike!
Let’s use $3- $4 per gallon to consider the e-bike advantage. If your car or truck gets 30 mpg, that $4 worth of fuel will take you 30 miles. Many e-bikes can take you at least 30 miles on a single battery charge, and a Magicycle e-bike could take you twice that with moderate pedaling.
Accordingly, we can expect to spend at least $3-$4 on gas to go 30 miles, and alternatives have become very appealing. That single battery charge for an e-bike takes you the same 30 miles (or more). What’s that, you ask? Oh, what about paying for electricity to charge the battery? I’m glad you asked!
To charge the average e-bike battery, even with Magicycle’s Fast Charger, the cost is less than a dime. In most parts of the US, the cost of a single charge is even lower–about a nickel or less. That means a 30 mile commute will demand at least $3-$4 in fuel to use your automobile, but less than ten pennies on an e-bike! And that quick trip to the grocery store for a gallon of milk? That will cost almost nothing.
Saving Your Appearance
When commuting to work, school, or perhaps some social engagement, you might be concerned about arriving looking fresh, calm, cool and collected. In other words, dripping wet with sweat from cycling could be a bad idea. That’s another area where e-bikes excel over conventional bicycles.
Many e-bikes allow you to select the level of PAS (Pedal Assistance) on the fly as you ride. If the exertion of pedaling is a bit too much for comfort, and can feel that you are about to start seating…no problem! You can simply increase the level of pedaling assistance with the simple push of a button. Optionally, you can just stop pedaling and use only your throttle, depending on the capabilities and features of your e-bike.
E-bikes are a Great Choice for Commuters
