When designing the frame, every pound counts, and aluminum is lighter than steel.  By nature, aluminum is a less dense metal as compared to steel. In fact, it is less than half as dense, and this translates to a lighter frame. Because steel is a stronger metal, the bike frame tubes can be a smaller diameter as compared to aluminum. However, even though aluminum frame tubing is typically larger, it still is lighter than than the smaller steel tubing. For e-bikers interested in maximum range, every pound saved is significant.

Economy

The truth is, it simply costs less to manufacture bike frames when using aluminum. Aluminum frames are easier to mass produce, and yet they provide excellent strength and light weight. The Magicycle frame is formed in the Magicycle factory from 6061 aluminum alloy. This popular bike alloy provides exceptional strength, light weight, durability, and a defect-free highly pleasing appearance. It also provides corrosion resistance. Your Magicycle frame will never rust, no matter how long you leave it out in the weather. However, it is possible that aluminum will corrode, especially if you get deep scratches or chips. Even so, aluminum corrosion is never a problem. It actually strengthens the metal and even protects it from deeper corrosion…strange, but true.

All this is made possible by employing technology borrowed from the aviation industry. This includes hydroforming and cataphracted weld joints…regarded as the best welding technique in the world.. Many e-bike manufacturers base the frame sizing on seat tube length. That’s unfortunate, because seat tube length is not a key criteria. Far more important are body-hand distance adjustment and seat low-arc sag design so that riders have enough standover distance for their leg inseam length.
